Developed at Yale by Gerald L. Klerman and Myrna M. Weissman, interpersonal psychotherapy is a time-limited treatment that addresses psychological distress through relationships: grief, role disputes, role transitions, and interpersonal difficulties. The World Health Organization recommends it as a possible first-line treatment for depression and has published, since 2016, an eight-session group protocol designed to be delivered where specialists are unavailable.
